This 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle shows Durham Cathedral, one of Europe's finest examples of Romanesque architecture, forms a magnificent backdrop as the Pacific A4 60009 Union of South Africa steam locomotive hauls the "Jubilee Requiem" carriages from London's Kings Cross over Durham Viaduct towards Newcastle. Started in 1093, the cathedral was largely completed by 1133. Originally built as a monastic cathedral for Benedictine monks, Durham is the only cathedral in England to retain almost all of its Norman craftsmanship. The warm tones of the stone (both in the cathedral and the viaduct) combine with rich autumnal tones from the trees and the moody sky to ensure plenty of puzzling challenges! Although this scene has a strong nostalgic feel, it was actually photographed in October 2014.
